<p class="C1">&#65279ARJAN SI&#7748GH (d. 1859), a military commander in Sikh times, was born the son of Jam&#299at Si&#7749gh of Ra&#7749gha&#7771  Na&#7749gal, in Gurd&#257spur district. In 1845, on the eve of the first Anglo-Sikh war, he was given the command of four infantry regiments, one regiment of cavalry, and a troop of horse artillery, with which force he served at the battle of Sabhr&#257o&#7749. In 1846, he took part in the Kashm&#299r expedition and in August 1847 received a Persian title of honour on the recommendation of Major Henry Lawrence, the British Resident at Lahore. In 1848, he accompanied R&#257j&#257 Sher Si&#7749gh A&#7789&#257r&#299v&#257l&#257 to Mult&#257n, and became an ally in his rebellion. His followers, hearing this, rebelled too and defended the fort of Ra&#7749gha&#7771 Na&#7749gal successfully against two companies of the Lahore troops.
